National Security

Nothing is more important than keeping America safe. By protecting our ports, railroads, and nuclear facilities, we can work to prevent terrorist attacks in our country. The challenge of the war on terrorism has also made it clear that we must work closely with other nations and try to reconcile our differences, not alienate them. When force is necessary, it must be used responsibly and with the utmost regard for our brave fighting men and women.

Education

Every person deserves the education necessary to succeed. To do so, we must invest in all aspects of education from early childhood education on through elementary, secondary, and higher education, and provide adult education as well for those who changes their careers. We must also invest in our public schools and hire more qualified teachers. No student should be denied a decent education because of cost.

Labor

Our economy works most effectively when employees are treated with fairness and respect. Working families deserve a fair wage, a safe workplace, great child care, effective job training, and a decent retirement and trade agreements that are fair as well as free. The U.S. should reward the hard work of its people by protecting their jobs against unfair trade agreements and ensuring they receive the retirement benefits they've earned.

Health Care

Health insurance should be a basic right, not just an expensive privilege for the few. Medical coverage should be affordable for all citizens, especially the most vulnerable members of society. It's a continuing disgrace that tens of millions of people are uninsured and can't afford to see a doctor in the wealthiest country in the world.

Civil Rights

Every American -- regardless of race, creed, gender, or sexual orientation deserves equality of opportunities and freedom from discrimintation. Americans deserve equal justice in all aspects of their lives, including a woman's right to choose, equality in the workplace, and protection from hate crimes based on bigotry. A judiciary free of ideology or special interests is essential in safeguarding these basic constitutional rights.
